Ice Princess is a 50/50 hybrid that happens to come from one of my favorite strains of all time White Widow. The story of the first time I smoked White Widow is actually a very funny one. I knew a girl in high school and college who was always a little strange. By strange I mean she was very loud and all over the place while somehow also saying a lot of things that did not make sense. After not seeing her for a while in high school, my friends and I went to a party that she randomly showed up at. She then pulled my friends and I aside and pulled out a blunt and said, “You have to try this! It’s the White Widow.” It wasn’t so much what she said, it was the spookiness of the emphasis on the word widow that had us cracking up. And so began my love for White Widow.
I have since then always looked for strains that are bread from White Widow since I enjoy both the flavor and effects of that strain so much. When ordering from my local delivery service, Fly Delivery LA, I asked what they had mixed with that and was recommended, Ice Princess. Ice Princess is a 50/50 hybrid, that is a mix of what is clearly one of my favorites White Widow and the powerful sativa Cinderella 99. Ice Princess comes from a well-known breeder called Brothers Grimm Seeds which is located in the state of Colorado. I decided to give this strain a try and see what it had to offer. I had not tried Cinderella 99, but the reviews of it seemed like it would be a good mixture.
Ice Princess gets its name because the nugs have an extremely crystalized appearance to them, like the crown a princess would wear. It was a minty green color with orange hairs hidden underneath and then had all those crystals on top, it truly was beautiful. This strain has dense nugs with tons of resin and happens to come out shaped like a pine tree, which I thought was kind of cool. The scent of this strain had an interesting yet distinct aroma, unlike most weed smells. This strain has tropically flavored, skunky buds but lean more towards the tropical side in my opinion. It wasn’t super strong, but it was definitely a nice smell. The weed itself ground up pretty easily but came out a bit small as for the amount, just something to be aware of.
At first, after smoking Ice Princess, I thought that maybe I was not feeling the effects of this strain. Then after a little while, I realized that I was having bursts of energy that then faded into a more relaxed and tingly feeling. When it hit me, I could feel the high throughout my body and my mind was super calm and clear. The effects of this strain are said to have you feeling uplifted, happy, relaxed, and tingly, as well as relieving pain, stress, fatigue, depression, and insomnia in some users. Ice Princess has strong sedating effects that are also favorable to those who suffer from pain and insomnia. I was most certainly euphoric and calm, and after a while, I did feel tingly down my body. Towards the end of the night, I felt completely Zen and overall pain-free. I sometimes struggle with insomnia, and with this strain, I knew I would not have a problem sleeping at all.
In my experience with this strain, I’d say Ice Princess starts out as a head high, lightening your mood and making you feel extremely relaxed and at peace. It then becomes a body high as those tingles slowly make their way down your body until you become completely zoned out and almost couch-locked. The downside of this strain is said to be having dry eyes and dry mouth. I personally did not feel either of these things in an alarming way. I sometimes have dry eyes from contacts so I can never really tell about that. However, I did not feel that my eyes were dryer than usual. I will say that I did eat a lot of snacks after smoking this. I do not totally mind the munchies, it sort of comes with the territory, but if you aren’t a fan of the munchies then I’d steer clear of this strain.
Ice Princess is a strong and lasting strain, that will make you feel hazy and almost couch-locked. It will put you at ease and allow you to have a relaxing night in until you pass out into a deep sleep. The unique smell of this strain will take you to a tropical place and make you feel like you are on vacation. When you are looking for a strain that stands out from the rest and will give you that calming sensation, this 50/50 hybrid is definitely one to go for. I woke up the next morning feeling incredibly rested and ready to start my day. I think that’s a bonus of this strain, there is no hangover feeling, you just feel good the next day.
My overall experience with Ice Princess was very good. I was continuously high and relaxed throughout the evening and got a great night’s sleep. I was definitely high after a few bowls and felt hazy and tingly. If insomnia is one of your main concerns, I definitely recommend that you look for Ice Princess at your local shop next time and giving it a try. The tropical smell with the skunky undertone will leave your house with an aroma you’ll never want to go away. The taste is pure and smooth, allowing you to smoke as much as you want without worrying about getting too high or having a coughing attack. The crystallized nugs of Ice Princess will draw you into this strain and its effects will make you feel calm, like a member of the royal family.
